Samsung Has Introduced ‘Greenest’ Cellphone So Far

Samsung is seriously keen on going green – last year Samsung has launched two cellphones which were built with green materials or equipped with functions that help save energy. This year Samsung came even further and presented solar powered cellphone.

Samsung Blue Earth will feature solar power panel on its back

Samsung said in a statement its Blue Earth solar-powered model had a touch screen and was made from plastic taken from used water bottles.

The integrated solar panels on the back of the phone can yield a three minute call after a ten minute charge. For non-sunny days additional charger is included.

In addition, the Blue Earth will offer the innovative ‘Eco mode’ interface, enabling users to adjust backlight duration and Bluetooth for greater efficiency. Other green extras include a pedometer-based ‘eco walk’ feature which measures how much CO2 has been offset through walking versus driving. The resulting benefit to the environment is measured in the number of trees that have been saved in the process.

However, Samsung did not give pricing information or say when the phone would go on sale.

Wolrd leading cellphones producer Nokia has announced its plans to issue ‘greener’ cellphone and even had introduced conceptual model, but there haven’t been any news since about its launch in mass market.
